Melamine Formaldehyde Resins
Non-methylated melamine formaldehyde resins are hard, very durable and versatile thermosets with good fire and heat resistance. For this market, along with resins and additives, we offer extensive formulating expertise. Our resins are adaptable to a wide variety of system parameters and, when cured, are colorless, long-lasting, and solvent resistant.

Methylated Melamine Formaldehyde Resins
Melamine resins are "methylated" by adding excess methanol to the manufacturing process. The result is the incorporation of methoxymethyl functional groups into the structure of the melamine formaldehyde (MF) polymer, resulting in excellent stability even at very high solids content. By varying the degree of methylation, Hexion is able to meet the requirements of a wide array of MF processes and applications, and deliver a range of benefits, including:
- Cross-linkage among a diverse group of polymers—containing hydroxyl, amino, amido, or carboxyl functional groups
- Better mar, stain, and block resistance in wood coatings and catalyzed systems
- Ability to create fabric stiffness or “hand” via cross-linking latex emulsions in textile applications
- Stability for effective use in water-based systems
- Fire retardant properties

Melamine Urea Formaldehyde (MUF) Resins
Melamine Urea Formaldehyde (MUF) Resins are useful in oriented strand board and fiberboard manufacturing, where water resistance and superior durability are required.
Melamine Urea Phenol Formaldehyde (MUPF) resins
Melamine Urea Phenol Formaldehyde (MUPF) resins are used for oriented strand board. These resins are designed to pass the European OSB 3 qualifications.
