Our Lakeland site recently donated two large drums of isopropyl alcohol to the local Polk County Sheriff's office to help them with the shortage of disinfectant.

Hexion associates in Pernis, Netherlands donated PPE to a local hospital in response to the shortage caused by the COVID-19 health crisis.

A shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) &mdash; including masks, N95 respirators, and gowns &mdash; is challenging health workers&rsquo; ability to respond to the coronavirus pandemic in the United States and around the world. This has caused doctors and nurses to reuse gear in ways that put themselves and patients at risk of infection.<br /> <br /> Among the resources running dangerously low are N95 respirators, the masks that cup the face closely and have been approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to block the inhalation of 95 percent of small airborne particles.<br /> <br /> The medical community has called on those that are able to donate these N95 masks to help minimize this shortage. Our Springfield associates heard this call and stepped up, donating 40 masks to the local Riverbank hospital. The hospital was extremely grateful for the donation.<br /> <br /> Great job, Springfield!

Late last year Hexion joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR program as a partner. By doing so we made a fundamental commitment to protecting the environment through the continuous improvement of the energy performance of our facilities and operations.

Hexion's Hope, AR plant recently was able to reduce their waste stream, cut fresh water usage, and recovered thousands of pounds of product. Keep reading to find out how.

The Geismar plant had a need to reduce costs for interplant truck transfers, and had rainwater that was captured on site, but could not be used. By thinking outside of the box, and recognizing that the one pipeline could help both challenges a team of associates found a creative way to use 4.8 MM gallons of rainwater, offsetting freshwater purchases and waste treatment costs. That is ten times more annually than in prior years!<br /> <br /> A project team of operations and Six Sigma associates set out to identify and implement solutions to reduce truck transfers of product between two physical locations separated by nearly &frac12; mile. These transfers were required to meet customer demands at the two separate locations.<br /> <br /> Through their investigation, the project team identified that a pipeline would not only eliminate trucked interplant transfers, but could also be used to transfer rainwater captured in the tank farm area between the two locations for beneficial reuse in the process and the necessary flushing of the piping after each transfer.<br /> <br /> As a result of this pipeline not only was the site able to increase their rainwater consumption, but were able to eliminate 1,812 truck shipments annually between the two locations and the resulting fuel use, CO2 emissions and potential safety and environmental exposures.

<p>Since the outbreak of Coronavirus in China before the 2020 Lunar new year, Hexion China has taken preventing and controlling measures from all perspectives in a responsible way, caring about the health and life safety of all associates, ensuring smooth production for customers&rsquo; orders fulfillment and minimizing the effects on logistics and supply chain.</p> <p><strong>Global aids to China</strong></p> <p>Hexion is active in organizing the virus preventing materials through its global purchasing network. Associates from Hexion Korea donated masks to colleagues in China within the shortest time after the outbreak. Hexion Headquarters in US and our European company are proactively engaged in contacting all the channels to order the virus preventing materials. Hexion China management team decided to donate masks to the department of infectious disease, Shanghai Hua Shan Hospital after reserving sufficient masks for employees&rsquo; self-use.</p> <p><strong>Online service to meet customers&rsquo; needs</strong></p> <p>As the current situation of Coronavirus preventing and controlling is still severe in China, to respond to the call of the government, all the Hexion China team, including sales and technical service team work online to serve our customers and partners and maintain close communications. The customer service team handle all the orders as quickly as usual, ensuring no order delay led by the virus. As domestic carriers return to operation gradually, goods and shipments start to flow to the customers. Only in some individual and most seriously influenced province and city like Hu Bei and Wenzhou, there will be some delay in lead time due to the cross-province control and inspection measures. Hexion will reach out closely to the customers if there is the case.</p> <p>To support the government&rsquo;s efforts to cancel aggregate and gathering activities and for the sake of the health and safety of all customers and partners, Hexion has decided to postpone the opening ceremony of Application Development Center from Feb. 20, 2020 to June 2020. Specific date is subject to the progress of the Coronavirus preventing and controlling in China.</p> <p>Let&rsquo;s work together and we will overcome all the difficulties. <p>Responsible chemistry is more than a catchphrase. Responsibility is a way of life, meaning the safety of our customers and associates is our first concern. Hexion employees have been supporting the work of the Balthasar children's hospice in Germany for many years. This year coloring books and pens among other useful toys were donated. So that Balthasar can continue to be a place to live and laugh, die and mourn, the institution is dependent on the help of many people. In order to provide support for the families, Balthasar was set up in September 1998 as Germany’s first children’s hospice. Since then, it has accompanied families with a terminally ill child on their difficult journey from diagnosis to death.

The electrical vehicle market in China is developing quickly. In January 2018, electric and autonomous vehicle company NIO launched its first production car for the masses with the ES8 electric SUV. In June, NIO’s second SUV production model, the ES6, officially rolled off the production line. Hexion is proud to announce that our epoxy material is used for the floor in this innovative car. The floor is made of our resin system in combination with carbon fiber, which can be produced in a short time and has a high torsional stiffness, contributing to a lightweight sport utility vehicle with fast acceleration and a large driving range.

Hexion recently celebrated the 150th anniversary of first mention of the Kasseler Braun production process in 1868. The event was planned as a big community celebration with families and local associations joining together.

Hexion's launch of a new family of polyols into the polyurethane foams market is gaining attention. The rigid polyurethane and spray foam industry is currently facing several challenges, including a need for better thermal insulation properties and improved reaction to fire, especially in construction. The move towards more environmentally friendly blowing agents necessitates changes in formulations and halogenated flame retardants are coming under increasing regulatory scrutiny.<br /> <br /> Hexion's paper (Novel Aromatic Nitrogen Polyether Polyols for Rigid Polyurethane Foams) received the award for best paper in the Chemistry and Fundamentals session at the 2018 Polyurethanes Technical Conference hosted by CPI (Center for the Polyurethanes Industry) in Atlanta from October 1-3. Drs. Ganapathy Viswanathan, Anthony Maiorana, Pravin Kukkala, Vinay Malhotra of Hexion and Ibrahim Sendijarevic of Troy Polymers Inc. co-authored the paper which outlines Hexion&rsquo;s innovative offerings to the market.<br /> <br /> Hexion&rsquo;s Resonance^TM T series of aromatic nitrogen polyether polyols are highly reactive and multi-functional and offer new options for the foam industry, providing the opportunity for total cost reduction through improved productivity, as well as the potential for reduced levels of catalysts and fire retardants.<br /> <br /> We have generated significant interest in the industry and people are recognizing these products as innovative.
